About

Sakura Kiki is a visual artist from Lisbon, currently based in Paris. Her practice explores how memory, identity, and visual culture are shaped by digital media, drawing on fragmented childhood impressions and internet-sourced imagery. Working across painting, textile, and collage, she recontextualizes pop-cultural symbols into layered compositions that evoke both nostalgia and critical reflection.

Often painting small canvas fragments and sewing them together, Sakura draws inspiration from the tradition of "domestic arts" such as quilting and embroidery. This process highlights themes of fragmentation, care, and reconstruction, while subtly referencing the labor historically associated with femininity.

Through a distinctly feminine lens, she reclaims motifs of girlhood—pink tones, whimsical outlines, bold cartoon references—to question how femininity and youth are commodified in contemporary culture. Influenced by punk and DIY culture, her work embraces imperfection and process, creating space for vulnerability within a media-saturated world.
